Are you still looking to nail down your plans for the upcoming Independence Day? There are plenty of events happening throughout Dallas where you can celebrate the Red, White and Blue while taking in a spectacular fireworks show, enjoying a drink special or competing in a holiday-themed run.
If pyrotechnics are your bread and butter come July Fourth, then don’t miss the Red, White & Boom on the Bridge — the best place to catch Downtown Dallas’ firework display on Wednesday, July 3. Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge, the Felix Lozada Sr. Gateway and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge will all transform into a lively Independence Day festival starting at 6 p.m., and will include food, drinks, music, children’s activities and more. Make sure to stay until dark, when the fireworks will officially kick off right over the iconic Dallas skyline. This event is free to the public.
If you want to avoid the crowds on the bridge, head to the nearby Texas Ale Project, where the brewery will host their fourth annual ‘Merica the Beer-iful beginning at 4 p.m. The taproom will have all their best brews on hand, include their Single Malt Blonde Ale and their new Tap Hard Seltzer, plus cans of Payne Pils and Rose Amour for only $4. Food will be provided by Munchie Street, and there will be live music by Jes Spires and Justin Pickard. But the best part is that you’ll still have a great view of the Downtown fireworks! Make sure to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show. Admission is free, and this event is both family- and dog-friendly.
The city’s other great firework show is at Fair Park Fourth on Thursday, July 4. This event is also free and open to the public and will include patriotic music (official concert lineup to be released soon), food and refreshments, games, arts and crafts and, of course, the main attraction: a colorful pyrotechnic display that will kick off at 9:30 p.m. If you’re looking for more to do before the show, you can also buy $8 admission to the State Fair of Texas Midway, with plenty of rides and games to delight the little ones. Note that for this special event, all proceeds from the Midway will go to the Big Tex Scholarship Program.
If you’d prefer to spend your Fourth of July working up a sweat and giving back to the community, then make sure to head runDallas’ annual Five on the 4th at Klyde Warren Park. Runners have plenty of racing events to choose from, including a 5-mile run, 5K, 2-mile walk and a race for the kiddos, so the whole family can find an event to participate in. The fun doesn’t stop there, though! Make sure to hang around for the post-race party, which will include music, food, complimentary beer for those of age and even a watermelon-eating contest. Face painters and balloon artists will also be onsite. This race benefits the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, and all finishers receive a medal and short-sleeve shirt or tank top.
