What’s makes your Easter Sunday perfect?
For many Dallasites, it’s heading to the city center to worship, play and savor a wonderful meal in good company. In addition to warm spring weather and bountiful blooms, this holiday weekend is full of ways you can enjoy our great city’s parks, restaurants and historic districts. Here’s a sampling of all that’s happening in downtown Dallas this Easter weekend.
Kids Stuff
Mama Ida’s Garden in the Dallas Farmer’s Market is the place to be from 10AM through noon on Saturday. April 15th, when Farmer Kim will teach the little ones how to dye eggs using only fresh ingredients found at the Market. That afternoon, take in panoramic views with the Easter Bunny himself at Reunion Tower. During Easter Fun for Every Bunny weekend, kids 12 and under can enjoy special activities on the observation deck and take pictures with the celebrity bunny from noon until 3PM. Back the Farmer’s Market on Sunday morning (the 16th), the Passport Easter Egg Hunt is on. Visit the information booth in The Shed and pick up a Passport to start collecting.
Active Fun
The annual First Dallas Easter Run is an invigorating dash through downtown that comes in two sizes: a one-mile family run that begins at 8AM and a four-mile timed race that begins at 8:30. Walkers and joggers are also welcome. Participants in the longer run will wind through the Museum District, pass such Arts District architectural highlights as the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and the Winspear Opera House and take a sprint around the West End along the way. The Saturday, April 15, event also boasts “the best post-race hot breakfast you’ve ever tasted,” which will be followed by an awards ceremony at Founders Plaza.
Worship Services
Good Friday in the Park gets underway at 7PM Friday, April 14th, on the Ginsberg Family Great Lawn in Klyde Warren Park. This annual community Easter celebration hosted by Fellowship Church will feature a communion service, food trucks and live music, all in the beautiful natural setting of one of downtown’s most popular outdoor destinations. Fellowship will also be offering Easter Sunday services at its Ross Avenue location downtown.
In addition to communion and regular worship, First Presbyterian Church will hold an Easter Sunrise service in its Chapel Garden at 6:30AM. First Dallas and Antioch Church will also celebrate Easter Sunday downtown, and Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe will offer Easter Mass in both English and Spanish.
